TEXTILE SCIENCE 2013 - PREFACE

The Technical University of Liberec was established in 1953. This year is being celebrated as 60th anniversary of its existence. The 8th Textile Science 2013 conference is arranged as one part of anniversary celebration. Over the years, the university has concentrated on disciplines and technologies used in industrial production throughout the Czech Republic and the whole world.

The Faculty of Textile Engineering has been established in 1960. At the present time the Technical University of Liberec is divided into six Faculties: Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Textile Engineering, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Mechatronics and Faculty of Architecture. Total number of students is more than 8500. The Faculty of Textile Engineering of the Technical University of Liberec is the only textile higher educational centre in the Czech Republic accredited for graduate and doctoral (post-graduate) studies. The Faculty of Textile Engineering provides three basic levels of university education - BSc, MSc and PhD. All MSc and BSc courses of the faculty are fully accredited by The Textile Institute International, Manchester. The faculty received accreditation of FEANI and after graduation and industrial experience, with right to reach a degree of Euro Engineer.

The total number of students of Textile Faculty in 2012 was 1510 in three study programs. Textile faculty is divided into the following departments: Material Engineering, Textile Technologies, Textile Design, Technology and Management of Apparel Production, Clothing Sciences, Textiles Evaluation & Nonwovens. The main study areas are: textile materials, spinning, weaving, knitting, nonwoven fabrics, textile finishing, economy of textile production and textile marketing, technical design of textile products based on the physical and statistical models, characterization of textiles structure and properties by using modern techniques, quality control of the textiles and production processes, advanced application of textile assemblies (composites, technical products etc.), intelligent textile structures design fabrication and testing, clothing production and construction and the design of clothes.
